The trial of George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon
Martin concluded with a not guilty verdict. But Zimmerman is
far from innocent and the entire case reminds us of the
pervasive nature of racism in the U.S.
I very much agree with Sam's report. It is a real
contribution and will help to bring clarity and greater
unity as this phase of the post election struggle proceeds.
It seems that every day there is a new story about State
laws restricting reproductive rights or blocking motion
towards wage equality.
Saturday, Jan 8, US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Federal Judge
John Roll and many others, including a
nine-year-old girl were shot during the congresswoman's
constituency meeting at a Tucson, Ariz. Safeway grocery
store parking lot. As of Sunday morning six have been
reported killed, including Judge Roll, and 12 wounded,
including Rep. Giffords, who was shot in the head and is
expected to survive.
The political calculus of the Republican Party over the past
two years has been simple: frustrate the president's agenda
and especially his economic plans. Then blame the White
House for the meager recovery, near double-digit
unemployment, and exploding federal deficit.
