After growing for nearly ten years, the U.S. economy came to
a standstill. In the fourth quarter of 2000 growth was
merely 1.1 percent. In January 2001, Federal Reserve
chairman Alan Greenspan admitted the U.S. went through a
dramatic decrease with probably close to zero growth. Indeed
in industrial production, the economy dipped below zero
growth.
