Los Angeles celebrates Fidel’s life

An overflow crowed attended a celebration of Fidel Castro’s life on Saturday evening in Los Angeles. Fidel’s contribution to the unity of the world socialist and communist was highlighted as well as Cuba practical acts in rendering solidarity to peoples and countries in need of assistance.

Participants in the impromptu program offered music, poetry, comedy and personal testaments to Fidel’s impact on the movement for socialism and world progress. Rosalia Munoz, a longtime leader of the Communist Party spoke to Fidel’s impact on world and U.S. events, the importance of Cuba’s solidarity efforts and its medical school which has trained hundreds of U.S. doctors.

Among the sponsors of the celebration were local chapters of the FMLN, MORENA, LA Sandinistas, and the Southern California district of the Communist Party.

Author

The Communist Party USA is a working class organization founded in 1919 in Chicago, IL.

The Communist Party stands for the interests of the American working class and the American people. It stands for our interests in both the present and the future. Solidarity with workers of other countries is also part of our work. We work in coalition with the labor movement, the peace movement, the student movement, organizations fighting for equality and social justice, the environmental movement, immigrants rights groups and the health care for all campaign.

But to win a better life for working families, we believe that we must go further. We believe that the American people can replace capitalism with a system that puts people before profit — socialism.

We are rooted in our country's revolutionary history and its struggles for democracy. We call for "Bill of Rights" socialism, guaranteeing full individual freedoms.

I know he was a Communist, should we really celebrate him, considering the things he’s done and the state he left Cuba in? We shouldn’t tarnish Lenin’s vision with homophobic tyrants like Castro.

The report on your impromptu tribute for Fidel is inspiring. Thank you. I will share it at our Club meeting tonight.
