Hey Trump and Graham: socialism is not unAmerican, you are!

Racism, anti-communism and anti-socialism have always been tied together in the minds of our ruling-class haters.

Martin Luther King Jr.  said as much years ago … “the labor-hater and labor-baiter is virtually always a twin-headed creature spewing anti-Negro epithets from one mouth and anti-labor propaganda from the other mouth.”

Today it’s the twin headed Republican creatures of Donald and Trump and Lindsay Graham spewing  racist attacks out one mouth and anti-communist slanders from the other.

Trump sank to new lows accusing four women members of Congress of “hating America” demanding they “go back to where they came from.”  Lindsay Graham added injury to insult by labeling them “a bunch of communists” and by implication suggesting they were advocating “foreign ideas.”

But socialism and communism are as American as apple pie.  Let’s recall that before the arrival of the Mayflower, the original Native American inhabitants held land in what is now the U.S. in common: it was capitalism that was brought in from outside.  And throughout U.S. history socialists and communists made many signal contributions to public life from serving as Generals in the Union Army fighting against slavery, to drafting Social Security legislation,  to adding enormously to American arts, letters, and science.

It’s way past time to expose the Big Lie about socialism being anti-American. And America is waking up and listening.

The Republican Party is banking on white supremacy and red baiting as wedge issues in the upcoming election campaign. Let’s remember that it was Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority leader who already last January branded everything from the Green New Deal, to increasing the size of the Supreme Court to statehood for D.C. as “socialism.”

But the GOP’s new found McCarthyism  and raw racism is going nowhere.  The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday rightly condemned Trump’s racist tweets.  Public opinion in many quarters is condemning Graham’s red baiting. Women, people of color, labor, LGBTQ people, Democrats with a big D and small d, independents and yes socialists and communists are doing more than taking note of these new outrages.  They are organizing. And we’ll see you Mr. Trump and Mr. Graham on Election Day.

The Communist Party USA is a  revolutionary working-class  political party founded in 1919 in Chicago, IL. The Communist Party stands for the interests of the American working class and the American people. It stands for our interests in both the present and the future. Solidarity with workers of other countries is also part of our work. We work in coalition with the labor movement, the peace movement, the student movement, organizations fighting for equality and social justice, the environmental movement, immigrants rights groups and the health care for all campaign. But to win a better life for working families, we believe that we must go further. We believe that the American people can replace capitalism with a system that puts people before profit — socialism. We are rooted in our country's revolutionary history and its struggles for democracy. We call for "Bill of Rights" socialism, guaranteeing full individual freedoms.
