AFL-CIO stimulus package phase one RESOLUTION for HR 2946 and S 1454

Archive Struggles Peace and solidarity Creating a Peaceful Response to Terrorism CPUSA Calls to Action for Peace and Economic Justice Action Alert for Peace and Economic Justice #3

ECONOMIC STIMULUS that PUTS FAMILIES FIRST, as outlined in THE AFL-CIO'S BLUEPRINT FOR ECONOMIC RECOVERY

Whereas, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, chaired by Congressman Dennis Kucinich, has introduced legislation which would "get people back to work and raise household incomes by providing enough new spending to recover from the recent fall of the stock market, the lagging economy, and the economic downturn following the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11", said Kucinich, and,

Whereas, the legislation contains what AFL-CIO President John Sweeney calls our "front line response programs" in answer to the attack against our economy and cities, with demands for survivors' benefits, extended unemployment insurance and workers' benefits, and other critical public needs, and,

Whereas, Senator Paul Wellstone says the legislation is "economically sound, putting purchasing power in the pockets of working families, fueling the demand for goods and services, and providing the stimulus needed for our weakened economy", and,

Whereas, the AFL-CIO's BLUEPRINT points to over one million jobs lost in manufacturing since July 2000 with an additional 450,000 layoffs throughout the economy since September 11, and,

Whereas, HR 2946 and S 1454 would provide relief for working families that have been left out of billion dollar emergency legislation passed by Congress and the Bush Administration for corporate welfare, now,

Therefore be it resolved:

That____________________________________________________________

Supports HR 2946 and S 1454 and urge their passage by the United States Congress and Senate, and,

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be sent to our Congressional Representatives and union and community organizations urging similar action in support of the bills.
