Party Builder - March 21 2008

We now publish the PartyBuilder weekly.

Our aim is to consolidate the communications you get from the national office into one weekly format, and to keep our focus on the activity and work of the clubs.

The party-builder will not add to your “to do” list – rather, it aims to keep you up to date on our political focus -- the elections – and provide food for thought with articles on the experience, what works and what doesn’t, of the Party organization, especially the clubs.

In this Issue:

Oregon club keeps on rollin’
The relatively new club in Salem, Oregon continues to be a pace-setter. Active in the labor, peace and other movement, the club has steadily added new members, gotten new subscribers to the PWW (more than 15 at last count). A good percentage of the members are already enrolled in the automatic sustainer program. Below are excerpts from an update received from Bob Rossi, club chair:

“This weekend a group of us participated in the Portland antiwar rally. We had a tent and we distributed about 150 PWWs and several boxes of literature. This was the first time in many, many years that there was a Communist Party presence at a Portland antiwar rally. See our blog for photos. Most of the people who stopped were young people.

“Next comes the Salem antiwar vigil, and the Cesar Chavez voter registration car caravan, then a group are going to the Job with Justice conference … we’re also holding benefits for candidates, local and national. Two weeks ago our blog had over 1200 hits in one week.

“We did an ad in Street Roots newspaper advertising our group and took out an ad at the Oregon State University student paper advertising us and the YCL.”

2008 Electoral Policy and more....
This has been a busy week over at the CPUSA Internet Department. For starters, check out a new video featuring long-time party member Danny Rubin making the case, citing not-widely-known evidence and his own personal experiences, that the Party played a pivotal role in the civil rights movement.

National Committee meeting
March 29-30

The National Committee will meet next week at the Unity Center in NYC (check out this video tour of the Communist Party USA's new national office)

The first day will be devoted to a discussion of the election struggle. On Sunday, there will be a report and discussion on the environmental crisis. The report, prepared by Marc Brodine and other environmental activists, is a major step for the Party, towards engaging on this critical question. Over the next year, clubs will be encouraged to hold educational discussions on the issue – stay tuned.

There will also be short reports on Party and press building, our internet work, and finances.

We will be filming this NC meeting and posting clips from it on the Party's website.

Top Ten Reasons To Vote
A week before primary day a Connecticut CPUSA club showing of the powerpoint "The Gigantic Battle of 2008 -- Labor and the People v. the Ultra Right" resulted in the group writing, on the spot, a flyer "Top Ten Reasons You and Your Friends Should Vote."
