Proposed Resolution: For a socialist coalition

BY: Cleveland West Side Club| June 6, 2014

Submitted by Cleveland West Side Club, Communist Party of Ohio

WHEREAS:

Repeated polls have shown that support for socialism has reached massive proportions including a majority of African Americans and liberal Democrats as well as over 40% of Hispanics, youth 18-29 and low income people, and

WHEREAS:

Organizing this mass sentiment into a meaningful political force should be a high priority for our Party as well as for all progressives and advocates of socialism, and

WHEREAS:

there is currently no one party or organization with the authority, mass base, resources and organizational network capable of realizing this potential alone, and

WHEREAS:

this goal may be achieveable through an alliance of like-minded organizations and individuals, and

WHEREAS:

The basis for such an alliance should be agreement on two principles: (1) that building a broad democratic movement to defeat right wing extremism is the urgent and immediate task and (2) a commitment to the ultimate goal of establishing a modern 21st century socialist society based on the needs, struggles and democratic traditions of the American people, and

WHEREAS:

Exploratory discussions with groups and  individuals on developing cooperation towards establishing such an alliance could begin after our  30th National Convention, NOW

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

that the 30th National Convention of the CPUSA endorses the goal of establishing a socialist coalition based on the aforementioned principles, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

that  following the convention the incoming national leadership  initiate exploratory discussions with groups and individuals it believes would be helpful in achieving this goal, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the national leadership encourage members, clubs, districts and other party bodies to promote achieving this goal in constructive and collectively agreed upon ways.
