For the past half century (and more), big capital has worked to privatize the whole infrastructure of our collective life, from the post office and parking meters to housing and education. That assault on the public sector has had disastrous consequences for organized labor, racially and nationally oppressed people, women, and the entire working class.
The rise of the MAGA fascist movement has intensified that process, not only gutting regulatory and civil rights agencies, but carrying out the largest act of union busting in U.S. history. Even among liberal and progressive forces, however, the fight for public ownership and people’s power sometimes takes a back seat to policies that funnel public money to private profiteers.
This Friday, host Anita Waters and housing justice activist Ben Bath are joined by a special guest: former CFPB financial regulatory expert and Maryland congressional candidate Alexis Goldstein. We’ll talk about public housing, public education, public sector jobs, and why the fight for democracy requires expanding public ownership of our social wealth.
