During trade talks with China’s leader Xi Jinping, Trump announced on TruthSocial that he had directed the Pentagon to resume nuclear testing. Talk about a shot over the bow! Suddenly, bilateral conversations about soybeans, rare earth materials, and tariffs seemed to take second place to U.S. imperialism’s nuclear sabre rattling.
With current nuclear agreements with Russia set to expire in February 2025, all bets may be off. With the exception of the DPRK, no country has conducted nuclear tests since the 1990s. Experts in the field are saying that currently there are no pressing military, technical, or justifiable political reasons for Trump’s sudden announcement.
