We are with you: Against guns, for jobs not jails

We the Young Communist League and New Elm City Dream of New Haven, Connecticut stand in solidarity with the students of Parkland, Florida.  We offer our condolences for the loss of your friends and teachers, and for the loss of peace in your community. This could have happened to any of us.  We are with you in the nationwide movement to unite youth against violence.

We have been marching in New Haven for many years to end violence in our city.  The majority of high school students in New Haven have lost a friend to gun violence.  This fact is a mass killing in itself. Our marches are not only to end shootings, but also to fight for jobs for youth and jobs for all.  Our most recent march on Sunday, February 25th was part of our annual Black History Month celebration. We highlighted the crisis of murders of black and brown youth in our community, and the crisis of joblessness that leads to violence.  Low regulation and availability of guns benefits the National Rifle Association and is part of the systematic killing of black and brown youth.

We are drawing inspiration from the Parkland youth and their national mobilization.  We stand in solidarity with every Parkland student who has called on all people to register to vote.  We too call on all elected officials and candidates to cut their ties with the NRA, and urge voters to unseat any politician that fails to do so.  Militarizing schools by giving teachers guns is a further attack on students and public education. This proposal only comes from leaders interested in increasing the NRA’s profits.

Please join the national student walkout on March 14th.   Please join the national March for our Lives on March 24th.

Our struggle is your struggle.  We mourn with you. We will fight alongside you.  Let’s make gun violence permanent history in every community across our country.

In solidarity,

Young Communist League

Shouldn’t we be working towards the idea of eliminating “jobs” and other systems where the workers must use their time laboring under someone else’s profit motive despite it being against their interest? I understand the current economic situation would be improved via a fully employed economy but unless that’s a transitional point via socialism are we not supposed to aim for a jobless collective that uses it’s labor power however satisfies them and gives purpose?

This is one of the reasons why I’m ambivalent about CPUSA. Karl Marx himself said in his address to the Central Committee in 1850 that the proletariat must never be disarmed, and any attempt to do so must be frustrated, by force of arms if necessary.

Marx knew that violence is the gold standard. It is the final argument, the one that must be answered. As civilized people, violence must always and ever remain the final choice, the one that is only availed when all others have been exhausted, but it must remain always within reach.

To put it less poetically, those who would see the people disarmed are implicitly saying that they are comfortable with the government, which is run by the ruling, plutocratic elites, having all the guns. The police forces that summarily execute who knows how many unarmed black men, the sheriff’s departments that pull over and harass citizens because they happen to be latino, the state governments that do everything they can to deprive women of their right to choose, and the federal government who breaks up families and publicly humiliates innocent people trying to make a better life for their children, the federal government that spends billions prosecuting a “war on drugs” that disproportionately targets brown people and which has kept whole demographics in poverty and in a modern form of slavery for generations, the federal government that is run by none other than Donald Trump…

THESE are the people you want to have ALL the guns? Really?

I understand you the(CPOA) would love for all of us ( Americans) give up our guns so the STATE can demand all of our property and weatlh we worked so hard for. Then in 20 years we will be just like the Cubans. No real bread, milk etc. Does anyone a part of the community understand what will happen? Or explain to me what will happen..

So if gun control actually works, why did Columbine happen?

    BH | March 30, 2018 at 5:08 AM

    There was no gun control.

      TY | June 07, 2018 at 5:54 PM

Yes there certainly was, the federal Assault Weapons ban was in effect from 1994 to 2004. These anti-gun protesters already got what they are after now, and it did not work. That is why it was discontinued in 2004.

Very well stated. And courageous. The stooges and clowns of the NRA and other special interests that dominate our government need to be thrown-out of office.

    The communists dont use firearms?

      Scott Hiley | March 19, 2018 at 2:31 PM

The choice to own and use firearms is one left to individual members of the party, subject to applicable laws. As a party, we reject violence and terrorist tactics, which are the main weapons of capitalism. The victory of the working class and the creation of socialism in the United States will come about through solidarity and collective action.

Communists don’t use violence, intimidation, and fear to further their worldwide agenda?

          BH | March 30, 2018 at 5:14 AM

Violence, intimidation and use of fear are not wrong in and of themselves. A mobster has no right to use violence to get his/her way, or intimidation or fear for that matter. A private citizen or law enforcement officer is perfectly within their rights to use violence when neccesary against law breakers, to intimidate those who may break the law, and make those who do so fear to do so.

    Vladimir Lenin | April 05, 2018 at 1:55 PM

In order for communism to work there must be equal distribution of wealth. This means that there is someone at the top who must control that distribution. So… you say that we should hand that power to the government and give them all of our guns (our only means of protection) along with all the money we have. Smart. Very smart.
