Stand against U.S. attack on Venezuela

Editor’s note: Declaration of the all-Party meeting on the U.S. attack against Venezuela on January 7, 2026.

On January 3rd around 2 AM, the Trump administration began a surprise covert bombing and kidnapping campaign. The Venezuelan President and First Lady were abducted and taken captive in the course of which 80 people were killed including 32 Cubans.

We extend our deepest solidarity and condolences to the heroic people of Venezuela and Cuba for the murders of the patriots and internationalists who lost their lives defending the Revolution.

The attack was an unjust, illegal, and criminal act of U.S. state terrorism. It warns every nation in the Western Hemisphere and even beyond: if you resist submission to U.S. imperialism the ruling class will remove you from power and take what it wants. This is fascist thinking applied to international affairs.

Trump’s open assertion of an “American claim” to the Venezuelan oil reserves only confirms the obvious. Venezuela is estimated to have the largest oil reserves on the planet, along with both an abundance of rare earth materials and Latin America’s largest supply of untapped gold reserves. Control over these important commodities will no doubt add to the profits of the U.S. oil and energy monopolies. This might-is-right approach to foreign policy is a dangerous escalation of US Imperialism. It’s also payback for the $1 billion provided by the energy corporations to the Trump election campaign.

But the working class and people of our country aren’t having it. Majorities oppose the intervention. The AFL-CIO along with many of its unions have denounced the intervention as have the organizations and movements representing the African American, Latino, Asian and peoples of the Middle East. Women, youth, students and the LGBTQ community are rightly outraged.

Yes, the U.S. people oppose war and it is our responsibility to resist it by demanding the release of the Maduros and an immediate restoration of Venezuelan sovereignty.

It is the people of Venezuela alone who have the right to determine their destiny. We stand in unwavering solidarity with them and their revolutionary process. We join with all progressive forces worldwide, to continue mobilizing against these criminal actions. Across the U.S., we have already joined mass movements that denounce the attacks on Venezuela.

The CPUSA has mobilized the entire Party, today, January 7th to unite in one voice so that our voices will be heard in the halls of government and in the streets fighting for the Venezuelan people. Their fight is our fight.

We call on all party and YCL members to participate in growing coalitions against the intervention. Our job is to fight for the leadership of the working class and people in the fightback.

If there is not an organized peace movement near you, build the coalition! If your town hasn’t held an anti-war rally, organize one! We will not stop until the Maduros are free and the sovereignty of Venezuela is restored.

We demand Congress pass the War Powers Resolution introduced by Rep. McGovern! Let us call, petition, rally, occupy and strike if necessary until justice is done!

Free the Maduros! Jail Trump! End U.S. intervention in Venezuela! Defend Sovereignty and International Law! No Blood for Oil! Venceremos!

The Communist Party USA is a  revolutionary working-class  political party founded in 1919 in Chicago, IL. The Communist Party stands for the interests of the American working class and the American people. It stands for our interests in both the present and the future. Solidarity with workers of other countries is also part of our work. We work in coalition with the labor movement, the peace movement, the student movement, organizations fighting for equality and social justice, the environmental movement, immigrants rights groups and the health care for all campaign. But to win a better life for working families, we believe that we must go further. We believe that the American people can replace capitalism with a system that puts people before profit — socialism. We are rooted in our country's revolutionary history and its struggles for democracy. We call for "Bill of Rights" socialism, guaranteeing full individual freedoms.
