In an average day, the world’s first trillionaire increases his wealth by $1.36 billion. In that same average day, more than 380 workers in this country are killed and another 8,600 suffer injury or illness because of dangerous working conditions that are preventable. These injuries and fatalities are not accidents. Nor are they the product of simple neglect. They are the effect of a deliberate strategy to cut costs by shifting risk and burden onto workers — one more facet of the violence capital uses to secure its profits and power.
