The aftermath of the Kirk assassination has been filled with vitriol and calls for banning the left, dictatorship, and even civil war by the MAGA right. They’re blaming the left, trans people, and even, incredibly, the Democratic Party, which has been called a domestic extremist organization by the fanatic Stephen Miller.
Some in the progressive and democratic movement have become dismayed and disillusioned by the broadsides from the right and are hunkering down in their bunkers, expecting the worst. But the Communist movement historically has fought against such pessimistic, defeatist positions as it leads to the demobilization of the broad democratic movement. And the ongoing mobilization of the people’s movement against the fascist right is key.
It must be understood that MAGA’s going nuts is not a sign of strength, but of its inherent weakness. It can be defeated by bringing the collective strength of our working class and people to bear. The role of the communist left has been to fight with all of its power to prevent war, not to incite it.
