Tax the Rich to Create Jobs

Thanks to all those who have signed our petition to create jobs through the Rebuild America Act. One other thing you can do to help us get to our goal is to click on the social network sharing buttons on the top right of this page (email, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn), so we can find new folks to support this important legislation. Here's what's new this week...

Taxes and Job Creation

As unemployment benefits begin to wind down for millions, we desperately need jobs for these and other workers. In that vein, there was a minor controversy at TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design), which puts on talks on a variety of subjects. Multimillionaire venture capitalist Nick Hanauer gave a must-see presentation on taxation and "income inequality" at the TED University conference in March. And although it was well-received, it was not originally published on the TED website. In it, he says taxing the rich will create jobs and we couldn't agree more! Paul Krugman concurs - unemployment need not be so high, and there are ways to correct it. The above graph (and link to the Wall Street Journal article) goes into more detail of how the rich already have plenty of money for job creation.

Michigan and Mitt

According to the the BlueGreen Alliance, the GOP blocking passage of long-term transportation solutions is preventing 43,000 transportation project jobs from being created in Michigan alone, and millions more nationwide. And, former Michigander, Mitt Romney, who blames Obama's policies for the lack of job creation has a bold pledge for a higher unemployment rate than the current administration is shooting for. Mitt destroyed jobs at Bain Capital and will no doubt continue down that path if he's elected in November.

  • How are people supposed to develop a work ethic when there is no reward for hard work? Why should I work as hard as I can when I will not receive the benefits?

Now, perhaps there may be some high-achieving people who share your ideology and will work hard, make a lot of money, and redistribute it. But there won't be enough to sustain the economy.

Perhaps pure communism as an idea is intriguing but we know how it works in practice!

God Bless America, God Bless Freedom, God Bless The free market!

  • the more money you make the more money someone should be taxed. that system is only fair but in the United States it seems to be such an issue, which only shows how screwed up the system is and how much control the wealthy have on the american system....ashame really

  • rm of Capitalism is Self-Destructive as it is, even in production methods, largely speculative Capitalism and that it relies mainly on a drive for the least production cost without proper compensation to drive the economic engine to the next level rather than to make it migratory. Finance Capitalism has no interest in products or production
    an

d fails to comprehend that production oriented capitalism is the essential and underlying framework of true capitalism. Something has to be made and must increase value. Ford, etc understood this. Since, Financiers increase value on existing productive value through planned scarcity per the relative value and need of an item and not on the labor or production of any material thing - they have no ability to understand or do not wish to allow for the economics of plenty and ever increasing value across the broad base of society. In other words, there is no reason to say no. Poor people cannot buy anything of significant value - hence suppressed wages suppress the economy overall. The traditional economic approach has been based on a system of limited production and scarcity of goods with value being determined by scarcity - this system is no longer appropriate as we now have the production means and technical capabilities to have an economy of abundance - it makes no sense to limit value and production anymore - except as an environmental challenge. We should be able to overcome and adapt with the environment in mind. Of course, if property is to continue to be a feature of society, there will be some differentiation, but it need not result in poverty or denial for so many.

  • I am disgusted. Nazis in America. That is what you are. Shame on you, all of you! Have you seen what communism does to the world? Look it up: China, Russia, Czechoslovakia, anywhere and anytime that communism has existed, it has ruined lives. You take and take and take, to feed everyone, but the end result seems to always be starvation for all but the ones in charge. You want to make a difference? Go get a job, instead of complaining about not having one. Go get a man on his feet, rather than tell him to hate his government. Get off your lazy, communist rear and make a difference that doesn't involve hating on anybody who doesn't think that Stalin was a god. Get a freaking life. It is times like this that I can't believe what has happened to the human race. Do you think that God meant for us to tear each other down like this? Even now I feel guilty talking to you like this, but I've got to let you know how I feel about this. Communism is based on the people, right? Well, how many people sit at home thinking, "Man, if our nation was communist, I would have job." Well, if you would get out of your house and look for a job, that might solve your problem, now wouldn't it? Is there anything really wrong with democracy? Sure! Does this mean that it must be wiped from the face of the planet and that anybody who believed in it should be sent to labor camps and slaughtered? I'm not even going to answer that one for you, because if you're human, you should know the answer. The best of luck to you in finding your humanity.

  • We must stay on the right track for all people.
Our small business had to file for bankruptcy this year.
The regulations from the government finally took its toll.
We were in business for over 20 plus years. We paid into social security and did you know that since we are owners even though we paid we are not eligable to receive any benefits. How is that fair?
Americans must stay exceptional. I have no choice but to start another business I own my own life I have had cancer twice I have raised three children one who has fought bravely for our country. I think people who's children did not have to fight should pay higher taxes. Let's take of ourselves. Small government lower taxes will free your soul don't be a taker be a maker!

  • We definitely do need to tax the rich more, the republicans like Cantor and Boehner calling them the "job creators". I understand where the republicans are saying that the wealthy earned that money from investments and such, but when you are sitting on millions of dollars that yes you earned and aren't doing anything with that money like.....creating jobs or investing money into the economy you deserve to be taxed more, not making us feel bad for them because they have SUCH HIGH TAX RATES. So we do need to tax the wealthy
