Proposed Resolution: Change U.S. policy towards Venezuela and Latin America

WHEREAS

beginning with the election of the late Hugo Chavez Frias as president in 1998, the government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has engaged in a radical transformation of class relations, and has succeeded in sharply cutting the poverty level and implementing many other progressive reforms, and

WHEREAS

the Venezuelan government under Presidents Chavez and Maduro has helped to improve the living standards of millions of people throughout the Latin America/Caribbean region and beyond, and has inspired the entire region to reject the “Washington Consensus” program of neo-liberal policies of privatization, austerity, so called “free trade” and repression, and

WHEREAS

Venezuela has offered generous help the countries of sub-Saharan Africa to help them overcome their own problems of poverty and sickness, and

WHERE

Successive U.S. administrations have exhibited a hostile attitude toward Venezuela and the other countries involved in the “Bolivarian” movement, and has used our tax dollars to actively interfere in the internal affairs of Venezuela and other Latin American states,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the Communist Party USA salutes Venezuela, ALBA and the Bolivarian movement for opening up new reasons for hope for the hemisphere and beyond, and

BE IT ALSO RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the Communist Party USA deplores the anti-Venezuela and anti-Bolivarian policies of the U.S. government and calls for a new policy of support and cooperation toward Venezuela and the other struggling nations of our hemisphere, and

BE IT ALSO RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the Communist Party USA deplores and opposes efforts in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to impose punitive sanctions on Venezuela, and

FINALLY BE IT RESOLVED

that party clubs, districts and members actively strive implement this resolution.
