Congress has to act on unemployment

Unfortunately, the GOP-controlled House of Representatives did not extend unemployment benefits last week.

First the bad news, unfortunately, the GOP-controlled House of Representatives did not extend unemployment benefits last week. The good news is we can still make a difference in this fight. If Congress fails to act, nearly 2 million unemployed workers will be cut off of federal unemployment benefits in the month of January alone. Millions more would be cut off in ensuing months - more than 6 million during 2012. Please take action now!

The fight to protect unemployment insurance

Last week, a petition with 75,000 signatures was delivered to Congress demanding unemployment benefits be extended. This week, on December 8th, dozens of actions around the country will be occurring to extend unemployment benefits. Check the previous link to see if there is one near you. The fight for jobs

Even though the latest jobs report shows the unemployment rate dropped to 8.6% - the lowest it's been since March 2009 - that news is tempered by the fact that 315,000 workers dropped out of the labor force. Which is why 10,000 marched for jobs in New York City recently. And what are the other demands of the 99%? AFSCME and Working America have put together a list of 9 Demands of the 99%.

  • Sooner or later the capitalist system would collapse, and on its ruins we will build a socialist future where fairness is paramount. So do not despair my dear friends. Sorry for my English.

  • Where is the money supposed to come from to extend UI benefits? Our national debt has passed 100% of GDP and the president wants to or row another trillion. I think we're broke.

  • My unemployment benefits have been cut off. I look for work everyday, I even ran ads to do yard work and any thing that I can do. We are losing the battle, more are losing their benefits. I have meet many that are now losing their homes, are now selling what they can. I live in the State of Washington where are governor is cutting schools budgets, post offices, colleges, social agencies. We are slowing being take over by corporations and Washington state is none the most expensive to live in. I consider myself a lucky one I have a warm place to stay. I have to used the food bank to survive. Most people my age are now just surviving. Most are cutting back, not going to movies, skipping meals, working odd jobs, selling their stuff. Tuition keep going up along with overcrowd schools, cut backs, teachers being laid off, social services being cut.
