Sample ‘Dear Friend’ Letter on Gaza Crisis

January 6, 2009

Dear Friend,

Sadly, 2009 began with the horrifying and desperate situation in the Middle East. The missile assault by Hamas into Israel helped to reignite the conflict and the Israeli military assault on the people of Gaza has killed hundreds. Now the reoccupation of Gaza by Israeli ground troops threatens the stability of the entire region and continued humanitarian crisis for the Palestinians. There is no military solution to the needs of Palestinians or Israelis.

These issues are complicated and very personal. But the urgency of peace is greater now than ever. The U.S. people and government have a huge role to play in helping to bring a cease-fire and withdrawal of Israeli troops.

Below are some articles and other resources from the Peoples Weekly World website and the Communist Party that I hope will help you understand the roots of and solutions to the current crisis. There is plenty more to be found in our archives of Israel, Palestine, the Middle East and the peace struggle. I think youll find it useful.

Please tell me your thoughts and lets work together to help bring peace to the region.

Signed,
