Communist Party, USA: Resolution on Leonard Peltier

Archive National Meetings 28th National Convention CPUSA July 2005 Resolutions

Whereas, Leonard Peltier remains in prison even though findings by the Eighth Court of Appeals have shown the FBI improperly withheld evidence. This evidence would have acquitted Leonard Peltier. Yet the Government was determined to secure a conviction against him. A new trial was denied due to a legal technicality. Amnesty International considers Leonard Peltier a political prisoner who should be released immediately.

Therefore be it resolved, that the Communist Party, USA stands in solidarity with Leonard Peltier in his continuing struggle against the forces of reaction; and,

Be it further resolved, that the Communist Party, USA calls on all progressive forces to join together to demand the immediate release of Leonard Peltier.

Adopted by the 28th National Convention of the Communist Party, USA, Chicago, IL; July 1-3, 2005.
