LOS ANGELES — Dubbed as the first comprehensive gathering of Latino leaders since the civil rights movement of the 1960s and ’70s, over 3,000 participants assembled here Sept. 6-10 at the National Latino Congreso.

The slogan of Chicano Liberation in the 70's and Mexican American Equality in the 80's and 90's, still ring true. Today an updated slogan would be Equal Partners In Struggle against the Bush Agenda, against the right wing dominance of the most reactionary sector of US global monopolies.

As the November 2 election nears it is clear that Latino voters will be a critical element of the growing forces opposing the Bush administration and Republican control of Congress.

We are living through a very dangerous period. The Bush Administration and most Republicans in Congress are using the events of September 11th to push their reactionary agenda: imperialist aggression abroad, racism and austerity at home. We are in the middle of a deepening economic crisis made worse by the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, the great corporate scandals of 2002, and the right-wing policies of the Bush Administration.
