The Communist Party USA calls upon the international peace movement to rise up and defend the rights and lives of the Palestinian people in their hour of crisis. The barbaric violence inflicted upon the Palestinians by the Israeli government, with the support of the Bush administration, has led the region to the brink of an all-out war.

The shocking and terrifying nature of the Sept. 11 assault has done more than temporarily traumatize the nation. It has also given the Bush administration and the far right a new
legitimizing discourse, or, to put it in a less highfalutin way, a new ideological rationale to pursue its political objectives at home and worldwide.

The Communist Party USA strongly denounces the brutal attack on the Communist Party of Chile and its members November 28 in Santiago, Chile.

The Peace and Justice Coalition of Michiana sponsored a "Stop the Killing in Afghanistan" march and rally December 2nd. Over 100 people came to speak out against the war! During the rally they delivered this petition to Representative Tim Roemer's office. Check out the photos from the rally, or read the rally flyer and press release. Isn’t it time to step back from the relentless bombing of Afghanistan? Isn’t it time for suspension of bombing?

From Biblical times to the founding of the United Nations in 1945, men and women have dreamed and worked for a world free from war. So far they haven’t done too well.

WASHINGTON - With the war on Afghanistan entering its third week, the death toll is rising for both Americans and Afghanis and so are the warnings that military force will bring neither justice nor peace.

CHICAGO - The broad shoulders of Chicago were weighted with grief following the terrorist bombings in New York and Washington that killed thousands. On Friday, during the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, the city literally stopped as events were held everywhere.

The Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space started planning worldwide rallies against "Star Wars" for Oct. 13 long before the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. But Global Network founder Bruce Gagnon said that with a war raging in Asia, the protests could not be more timely.

NEW YORK CITY - Thousands marched just a few miles from Ground Zero to call for an end to war and terrorism. They rallied Oct. 7 while workers continued the grueling job of removing the rubble of the World Trade Center and the remains of the victims.

The Bush Administration's bombing of Afghanistan Oct. 7 is not a solution to the terrible events of September 11th. Bush's action is driven more by revenge and retaliation, and is aimed at gaining a geo-political advantage. It is not an effective approach to ending terrorism and bringing those responsible to justice.

The bombing of Afghanistan has upped the ante on the urgency of working to build broad coalitions for peace and against terrorism.

Since the horrific events of Sept. 11, much has been said about the desperate situation of the Afghani people now crushed under the heel of the theocratic, dictatorial Taliban, and about the role of the Northern Alliance and other Taliban opponents who now figure in Washington's plans for the region. Some background helps shed light on the current crisis.

In that horrific instant on September 11th, the potential of a wider war spread over our country and the world's horizon. Indeed, in the wake of the terrorist attack, the struggle for peace and against the danger of war has become the overarching issue of our time and a precondition to eliminating terrorism in all of its forms. No issue at this moment and for the foreseeable future looms larger.

The U.S. Administration has come out with the view that Afghanistan could be only its first target in the strikes against terrorism. Iraq could be the next, and other countries could follow later. This has an ominous ring.

Terrorism is morally and politically reprehensible. Under no circumstances can it be justified. Its only outcome is to strengthen the forces of political reaction, racism, and militarism in our own country as well as abroad.

Needless to say, the shock of Tuesday's terrible events hasn't worn off. Everyone is struggling with how to take it in personally, as well as respond politically.

RAWA stands with the rest of the world in expressing our sorrow and condemnation for this barbaric act of violence and terror. RAWA had already warned that the United States should not support the most treacherous, most criminal, most anti-democracy and anti-women Islamic fundamentalist parties because after both the Jehadi and the Taliban have committed every possible type of heinous crimes against our people, they would feel no shame in committing such crimes against the American people whom they consider "infidel".
